BIOGRAPHY

For the last 25 years Mr. Swope has been an active entrepreneur. In 1995 he founded a fundraising company (LifeNet Services, Inc.), and raised over 3 million dollars for various non-profit organizations. In 1996 he founded Plus Five Management Inc., which owns and manages residential and commercial real estate. In 2000 Mr. Swope became a certified personal trainer, started a company called “Faith and Fitness,” and launched a website that offered consulting services for fitness training. In 2001 Mr. Swope founded A World Apart LLC - a chain of temporary retail stores that sell hand-crafted items from third world countries, and over the years he has opened 35 stores across 7 states. Mr. Swope has traveled extensively, and from 2007-2009 served as executive director of a castle (Schloss Neuwaldegg) in Vienna, Austria, where he lived with his family. In 2017 Mr. Swope started Points to Ponder LLC, an initiative to highlight the importance of attention to spiritual as well as physical development.

Mr. Swope received a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania, graduating Summa Cum Laude, and was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society. He also received an M.Ed. from Harvard University.

SPIRITUAL BIOGRAPHY

Mr. Swope was not raised with any religious instruction. Uncomfortable with the rampant materialism he saw around him, as a young teen he became an enthusiastic practitioner of Transcendental Meditation, and attended numerous silent retreats during the high school years. For college, he attended Maharishi International University (Fairfield, Iowa) for three years, and while there learned various Siddhi techniques, the most notable being levitation, practiced collectively twice a day at the University. During the three years there, every third month was spent on silent retreat.

After college Mr. Swope travelled extensively, visiting Ashrams in Europe, studying Theosophy, and exploring New Age approaches to spirituality. Later Mr. Swope had the opportunity to live with Muslim families in Egypt and Morocco. During a trip in Switzerland, Mr. Swope stayed at a Christian commune called “L’Abri”, founded by the late Dr. Francis Schaeffer.

While that stay did not bring Mr. Swope to embrace Christianity, he did decide to return to America after almost 2 years of travel abroad in order to study the claims of Christianity more closely. At about this time he experienced a private conversion experience. After exploring several denominations, Mr. Swope became a Roman Catholic while attending graduate school at Harvard University.

Having traveled in 59 countries, travel and openness to other cultures has remained an ongoing passion.
